Renowned photographer Chi Modu launches free site to give photographers a voice
New York, NY – May 12, 2008 – A new website dedicated to creating a community where photographers can showcase their work was launched this week. With its simple, descriptive URL and a fresh approach, ephotos.com is poised to shake up the photography establishment and give talented photographers a much needed alternative to getting their work seen.
What sets ephotos.com apart from other sites that offer listings to photographers is that it does not discriminate based on ability to pay. And, unlike other sites, ephotos.com was created by a highly regarded photographer, Chi Modu.
Modu has always been interested in giving a voice and presence to people who have been underserved. In fact, he has a stock image library that focuses on people of color, diverseimages.com. He sees photographers as another group in need of better representation. According to Modu, “I wanted to create a site for photographers to promote themselves, because the only one who can really understand the issues photographers deal with is another photographer.”
Ephotos.com will have 4 levels of listings, including a free option, because Modu doesn’t want to exclude talented photographers who may not be able to afford a paid listing. They are also committed to keeping the advertising on the site to a minimum so as not to detract from the work being featured. This is in stark contrast to other photography sites, which tend to be cluttered with ads and articles.
Ephotos.com will provide professionals in marketing, advertising, editorial, and brand management roles with a resource that will enable them to quickly identify talented photographers uniquely suited to their needs. The site will also provide listings of people in related roles, including hair and makeup artists, wardrobe stylists and digital technicians.
After receiving degrees in business and photojournalism, Modu got his start in 1990 shooting some of the most iconic figures of the hip hop movement, including P. Diddy, Tupac, Queen Latifah, and Snoop Dogg. His photography has taken him to many diverse places around the world, including Botswana, Cambodia, Prague, Yemen, and Nigeria.
